Luton & Dunstable Selects CliniSys

CliniSys has been selected by Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as their pathology IT partner to provide a laboratory information management system (LIMS) to achieve significant improvements in functionality and connectivity and to support organisational changes arising from planned Pathology services restructuring in response to the Carter Report.

In order to comply with current and future National Pathology Framework & National Standards, the Trust is investing in a new and integrated LIMS for Blood Sciences, Microbiology and Cellular pathology and has appointed CliniSys, in a five-year contract, to deliver their market leading WinPath Enterprise LIMS. The support of the Trust’s incumbent LIMS can only be extended for a further 12 months and so CliniSys has committed to deploy WinPath Enterprise this year.

Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust were explicit throughout the procurement process with a clear vision for the chosen solution. Key in their decision making was the need to find a solution that was centrally managed and administered with a standard configuration across all disciplines. However, the chosen solution also had to show flexibility to allow an element of local variation in configuration to meet local needs.

Business expansion was also high on Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s agenda and in particular, having the ability to link with other NHS organisations and private sector companies for providing pathology services. CliniSys impressed the procurement team by providing proven examples of their 20-year experience in transferring work between laboratories (Lab to Lab functionality).

Kevin Nulty, Business Manager and Pathology LIMS Project Lead for Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust comments “Another key objective was to find a solution that could deliver a comprehensive management system to meet our information and business strategies. WinPath Enterprise’s advanced data mining functionality will provide additional value though the capability of producing tailored reports on test usage, costs, benchmarks and real-time dashboards allowing us to manage and monitor our service more effectively”.

The WinPath Enterprise LIMS will deliver all the necessary functionality and platform to ensure that the required levels of availability, flexibility, and business agility are supplied; essential in the modern healthcare environment where pathology services need to evolve and adapt to incorporate new services and laboratories.

Kevin Nulty, continues: “The laboratory information system is the vital component to achieve the service transformation aims; to have an integrated, high quality pathology service that maximises innovation, technology while driving efficiency and effectiveness. CliniSys’ proven credentials in deployment together with the ability to provide the necessary levels of functionality and flexibility to all aspects of the service gives us confidence in the project ahead.”

Fiona Pearson, CliniSys Chief Executive Officer said: “A modern and forward thinking service demands an equally modern and highly capable IT solution in support of next generation pathology service delivery. We’re delighted that Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have selected us as their pathology IT partner and look forward to working with them over the coming months to realise their service objectives for better patient care.”
