Our approach to interoperability ensures the adoption of standard protocols such as HL7 and HL7 FHIR, which makes interfacing more affordable and easier to support. 

The underlying principle is to make it easy to embed our solutions into various clinical workflows and present the diagnostic information for use by other systems and users, right across the healthcare landscape. 

We manage all third-party system interfaces centrally and ensure significantly improved resilience in communication. Our interoperable solutions result in reduced lead times for new interfaces and allow greater levels of flexibility when handling site-specific interface requirements.

Our integrated solutions are highly scalable with the ability to handle high levels of throughput. For example, GLIMS, the most widely-used laboratory information system in Europe, has been designed to communicate with many third party systems.
GLIMS supports international standards including HL7, HPRIM, LDT, ASTM and Edifact – to name only a few. It also supports many connections based on local or national standards and legacy systems. Hardware-independent, its uniform communication model makes it simple to incorporate GLIMS into an information network using third-party applications (data managers for instruments, hospital information systems, GP systems, insurance systems).

A single central dashboard, where all interfaces and connections are viewed and managed is provided by Watchdog. This monitoring solution provides the user with a real-time system overview, which supports simplified troubleshooting.

GLIMS complies with international IHE regulations for the healthcare sector.

At annual IHE Connectathon events, systems are tested for interoperability with selected IHE profiles. At the 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2019 IHE Connectathons, GLIMS successfully passed all tests.
